Drugs by mail and "drop sites": three members of a drug ring in Mykolaiv sent to prison
Up to 9 years for drugs: a court in Mykolaiv sentenced three participants in a scheme to traffic prohibited substances
At the Central District Court of the city of Mykolaiv, a verdict was handed down to three residents who were accused of systematically illegally selling narcotic and psychotropic substances. These were a 25-year-old woman, her 22-year-old brother and their 26-year-old acquaintance. The court found that the defendants systematically sold prohibited substances via the postal service. Among them were PVP, methadone, amphetamine and cannabis. The information was released by the press service of the Central District Court of the city of Mykolaiv.
The parcels were sent to recipients in the Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Lviv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Vinnytsia and Donetsk regions.
In addition to sending drugs by mail, members of the group arranged so‑called “stashes” — leaving prohibited substances in pre-prepared locations. During searches, law enforcement officers found a significant quantity of PVP, methadone, amphetamine and cannabis in their possession.
During the trial all three fully admitted their guilt. The 25-year-old defendant explained that she mainly carried out the illegal activity together with her acquaintance, while her brother helped only a few times.
According to the woman, they received the narcotic and psychotropic substances from an unknown person whom they had never seen. They were only given the locations where they needed to pick up the corresponding parcels.
The trial was conducted by a panel of judges composed of Olha Hudenko, Oleksandr Chulup and chaired by Serhii Medyuk.
As a result of the proceedings, the panel of judges concluded that the guilt of the defendants in committing the criminal offenses provided for in parts 2 and 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has been proven.
The 25-year-old and 26-year-old defendants were each sentenced to a final punishment of 7 years imprisonment with confiscation of property. The 22-year-old defendant, who had previously been held criminally liable, taking into account the unserved portion of the sentence under the previous verdict, was given a final sentence of 9 years 2 months imprisonment with confiscation of property.
