Siren under new rules: Mykolaiv still needs to reconfigure its system
New rules are already in effect, but Mykolaiv has not implemented them yet: what is happening with the sirens
In Mykolaiv, residents continue to contact the city authorities about the duration of the air raid alert signal. Especially many such appeals come from residents of buildings located near loudspeakers.
The city authorities emphasize that the mayor and the city administration do not determine when to announce or cancel an air raid alert, nor do they set the duration of the sound signal.
At the same time, new rules on the duration of the sound signal have been in effect since 18 September 2026. For the yellow threat level it must last 30 seconds, and for the red level — 1 minute. Recently, city representatives met with the leadership of the State Emergency Service of Mykolaiv Oblast to discuss the possibility of implementing the new rules in Mykolaiv as soon as possible.
Appropriate decisions and technical reconfiguration of the notification system are required for this. According to the State Emergency Service, after the necessary decisions are made the process may take some time. The city authorities stated that they will keep the issue under control and do everything that depends on the city.
The city authorities also emphasized that the reason for the constant need to use the alert system is Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
“In general, in the 21st century we should not be hearing sirens in our cities. We must understand who is behind these alerts. Only Russia is to blame,” — the city authorities noted.
