Residents near loudspeakers complain about prolonged signals

The city’s air raid alert system in Mykolaiv will be reconfigured in accordance with the new requirements of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. Audible signals will become shorter, and the end of the danger will be announced to residents by a voice message without a siren.

The changes were discussed yesterday, September 24, during a session of the Mykolaiv City Council. Councilman Fedir Panchenko said he had been preparing an appeal to the Cabinet proposing to shorten the duration of air raid alert signals. While the draft appeal was being prepared, the government had already updated the rules for operating the alert system.

The resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No.1128 dated September 15, 2026 sets the following durations for audible signals:

for the red danger level — 1 minute;
for the yellow level — 30 seconds.

The signal for the end of the threat will also change: instead of activating the siren, the message “All clear” will be delivered by voice.

Fedir Panchenko urged the city authorities not to delay the transition to the new rules. According to him, residents of buildings near the street loudspeakers regularly contact the city council, exhausted by the long audible signals.

One can understand people who have not slept properly for who knows how many months or years, who live right next to these sirens. Since this issue is already regulated at the state level, we can now at least somewhat ease the lives of the townspeople.

The mayor, Oleksandr Senkevych, supported the proposal. He instructed the Department for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection of the Population to check the city’s alert system and bring the siren settings into compliance with government requirements.
