In Odesa, a pensioner shot a serviceman after a traffic accident

This morning on the Lyustdorf Road in Odesa, a 50-year-old serviceman was shot dead. According to the investigation, the shooting was preceded by a collision of vehicles. The pensioner, whom the investigation considers involved in the murder, was detained and notified of suspicion. This was reported by the regional police and prosecutor’s office.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the pensioner, at the wheel of a ZAZ, allegedly intentionally caused a traffic accident with a Chevrolet driven by the serviceman. After the collision the drivers began to argue.

The investigation claims that the pensioner took out a pistol and shot his opponent in the chest. When the victim fell, the attacker fired a second shot — into the neck. From these wounds, the serviceman died at the scene.

The man’s body lay in the middle of the roadway near his car. It was discovered during patrolling by officers of the Patrol Police Department.

Police seized the suspected weapon used in the shooting, spent shell casings and other physical evidence. Everything was sent for forensic examination.

The detainee was notified of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

• article 115 — intentional homicide;
• article 263 — illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives.

The investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, who entered information about the incident into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations. Procedural supervision is exercised by the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The question of a preventive measure for the suspect is still being decided. The investigation is checking several versions of the incident and possible motives for the murder.
