A thousand fewer leaks: "Mykolaivvodokanal" reports results for the six-month period

At “Mykolaivvodokanal” they reported a significant reduction in water losses in the city networks. If in January 2026 the indicator reached 44%, then in July it fell to 34.7%. According to the head of the enterprise, the measures taken have already produced savings of over UAH 5 million. The results of the enterprise’s work were described on September 7, 2026 during an administrative meeting by the director of MKP «Mykolaivvodokanal» Hennadiy Izyumov. The Mykolaiv City Council confirmed the report and the main directions of the enterprise’s work.

For comparison, according to the results of 2025 the water losses amounted to almost 40%. At the beginning of 2026 the situation even worsened: in January the indicator rose to 44%. However, it then began to decrease — to 36% in June and 34.7% in July. Thus, compared with January the share of lost water fell by 9.3 percentage points.

According to Hennadiy Izyumov, each percentage point of losses costs the enterprise about one million hryvnias. He said that thanks to work to reduce losses since the beginning of the year it was possible to achieve an economic effect of more than UAH 5 million.

Even more noticeable was the change in the network accident statistics. For the same period last year 1,648 leaks were recorded, whereas in 2026 — 640. That is, their number has decreased by more than 2.5 times.

The city council notes that since May the water utility began scheduled network replacements, purchased new tools for emergency crews and returned compact excavators to service that had been idle for two years. Pipe relining is also being used, which allows repairs without large-scale street excavations. Separately, the enterprise started accounting for vehicles that deliver sewage to the Varvarivka sewage treatment facilities. In May cameras with automatic license plate recognition were installed there.

According to the director, after the system was installed in the second quarter of 2026 the number of recorded tickets for wastewater acceptance increased by 145, or by 60% compared with the same period in 2025.

They also tightened fuel control. After installing fuel level sensors and fully launching the monitoring system, the enterprise, according to the director, saved 40,393 liters in three months. The city council also reports strengthened internal control over the use of fuel, equipment and material resources.

At the same time the water utility continues to upgrade the water supply infrastructure. The city council officially also reports more than 40 projects that are at the stages of implementation, design or tendering, and the enterprise’s cooperation with more than ten international donors and institutions.
