Mold, toilets and "don't breathe": city council revealed the deterioration of "Mykolaivvodokanal"
Forty percent of water is lost in the networks, and there has been no regular reporting or internal audit for years
At the session of the Mykolaiv City Council on June 30 the chair of the supervisory board of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivvodokanal», Hanna Montavon, spoke about the decline at the company in Mykolaiv and showed the condition of the toilets and service rooms.
During her report she stressed that, when walking across the company’s grounds to the assembly hall, she tries not to breathe, and she showed photos of mold on the walls and neglected restrooms.
According to Montavon, the degradation has been going on for years and began earlier than four years ago, meaning its causes accumulated long before the most recent changes in leadership.
She cited financial figures: until 2022 the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivvodokanal» operated at a profit, and in 2021 that figure amounted to 71 million hryvnias.
Separately, Montavon pointed to the absence at the enterprise of regular operational reporting, mechanisms to monitor the effectiveness of divisions and internal audit, as well as the non-functioning of the security department.
Among operational problems she listed delays in repairs, a lack of tools and uniforms, and the failure to use humanitarian aid the enterprise receives.
Answering deputies’ questions, Montavon noted that the new director, upon starting work, promptly began repairs inside the buildings.
“The stairwell is being repaired; I hope it will get to these toilets as well. Changes are happening,” — said Hanna Montavon.
At the same time, she did not name specific individuals responsible for the current condition, noting only that it concerns the enterprise’s leadership as a whole.
