After an argument, a man set fire to his partner's belongings in a residential building in the Mykolaiv region

The suspect, after an argument with his partner, set fire to her belongings, which caused a fire in a residential building and fled the scene. Investigators, based on collected evidence, have sent an indictment to the prosecutor’s office, which forwarded it to the court for consideration on the merits. For the committed act the arsonist faces up to 10 years in prison.

The incident happened in April this year. A 31-year-old woman, whose partner started the fire, reported the arson of the residential building in Pervomaisk to the police.

Police then located the 27-year-old resident of the district center and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators notified the suspect of suspicion of committing the crime provided for in Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, “Intentional destruction or damage of property by arson.” The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention with the right to post bail.

Now, based on collected evidence, police have completed the pre-trial investigation and sent the indictment to the prosecutor’s office, which forwarded it to the court for consideration on the merits. The court will decide the man’s fate. For the act he faces up to 10 years of imprisonment.

Note: in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
