A resident of the Mykolaiv region set fire to a shop because he was refused alcohol on credit
The arsonist faces up to 10 years in prison
In the Mykolaiv region, police detained a 30-year-old man suspected of an attempt to intentionally damage property by arson. According to law enforcement, he threw a bottle with a flammable liquid at the façade of a fellow villager’s shop after a dispute over alcohol.
This was reported on 15 June 2026 by the Pervomaiskyi District Police Department.
A report about the incident was received by the district police during the day on 14 June from the 39-year-old owner of a shop in the Kam’yanomostivska community.
At the scene, investigators and the operational team established that a verbal altercation had occurred between the complainant and the 30-year-old local resident. The cause was the shop owner’s refusal to sell alcoholic beverages to the man on credit.
After that, according to police, the suspect went home, took a bottle with a flammable substance, lit it and threw it toward the complainant’s shop. The man then fled the scene.
As a result of the unlawful actions, the bottle damaged the shop’s façade and then shattered on the floor. A small fire started near the entrance doors, but it did not develop into a full-scale blaze. The owner’s property, according to the police, was not harmed.
At the scene, law enforcement officers seized fragments of the bottle with the flammable liquid and other physical evidence.
Police quickly located the offender on one of the village’s streets and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Southern Region, have informed the man of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 15, Part 2 of Art. 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — attempt to intentionally destroy or damage property by arson.
The penalty under the charged article provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment.
The court will soon determine a preventive measure for the suspect. The pre-trial investigation continues.
