In Mykolaiv, 500 historical photographs that are held in the collections of the Mykolaiv Regional Museum of Local History, the Museum of Shipbuilding and Fleet, and the People’s Museum of the Mykolaiv Shipbuilding Plant are being digitized.
The project «Digital Photo Archive of Mykolaiv» involves creating an online collection of unique photographic materials and negatives from the late 19th — the first half of the 20th century. These materials had not previously been made available to a wide audience.
As part of the project, 500 photographic prints and negatives that have cultural, artistic, and historical value will be selected, attributed, catalogued, and digitized. A bilingual web resource «Digital Heritage of Mykolaiv» will also be populated with thematic content in Ukrainian and English.
The initiative aims to promote digitalization in the cultural sphere and support the decolonization of museum collections. The project is being implemented by Platform MY ART in partnership with the Mykolaiv Development Agency with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
