This was on 17 July 2026 reported by the communications department of the Mykolaiv Regional Police.

A report about a conflict on Soborna Street was received on the emergency line 102 at around 23:50 on 16 July. A witness reported gunshots and a man with an object resembling a pistol.

Patrol officers, the detective-operational team of police station No.1 of the Mykolaiv District Department, and the forensic laboratory arrived at the scene. However, participants in the conflict had left the scene before the law enforcement officers arrived.

A representative of the security firm told police that his partner had lost consciousness. The medics who arrived on the call declared the man dead.

According to preliminary investigative data, the conflict began between a group of young people and a taxi driver. A security guard intervened in the dispute and fired several shots into the air from a pistol chambered for Flobert cartridges. Other participants in the conflict and the second security guard used pepper spray canisters.

The police seized the weapon and the pepper spray canisters.

During the initial examination of the body, the forensic medical expert did not find signs of a violent death. The final cause of the guard’s death is to be determined by a forensic medical examination.

Police have already identified all participants in the nighttime incident and are interviewing them. The question of the legal classification of the event is also being decided.
