Weapons, alcohol and a public place: another conflict in Mykolaiv ended in a shooting

In the Namyv neighborhood of Mykolaiv, law enforcement officers have notified a 38-year-old local resident of suspicion, who, according to investigators, while intoxicated started a conflict near a supermarket, took a hunting carbine from his car and fired shots into the air.

This was 13 July 2026 reported by the Mykolaiv Oblast police.

A report of shots on Ozerna Street was received on the emergency line 102 at about 01:30 on 13 July. A patrol police crew and the investigative-operational team of the Mykolaiv District Police Department arrived at the scene.

Law enforcement established that the intoxicated man quarreled with other citizens in a public place, used obscene language and behaved defiantly.

During the argument he approached a car, took out a hunting carbine and fired several shots into the air. After that the man left the scene and fled in an unknown direction.

No one was injured as a result of the shooting.

During investigative operations, police officers identified the suspect. He turned out to be a 38-year-old resident of Mykolaiv.

The man was sent for a medical examination. The result showed 1.85‰ blood alcohol. The hunting carbine was seized by the police.

Investigators notified the Mykolaiv resident of suspicion under part 4 of article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – hooliganism committed with the use of a weapon.

The penalty under the article provides for up to seven years imprisonment.

Authorities are currently establishing all circumstances and any other possible participants in the conflict. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the suspect’s guilt must be determined by the court.
