Heat bent the metal: tram rails in Mykolaiv "warped"
The rails couldn't withstand the abnormal heat: the tram track warped
In Mykolaiv, one section of a tram track temporarily deformed due to an abnormally high air temperature. The rail buckling was recorded on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. The incident was reported by the municipal enterprise “Mykolaivelektrotrans”.
The enterprise explained that during extreme heat metal heats up and expands. As a result, local distortions can occur on tram tracks. The municipal enterprise called such deformation a natural phenomenon under conditions of abnormally high temperature.
After the problem was detected, track service workers promptly arrived on site. Specialists carried out the necessary repair work and quickly removed the rail distortions.
The enterprise did not specify exactly where in Mykolaiv the tram track deformed. The report also contains no information about a prolonged suspension of tram traffic or changes to route operations.
At the municipal enterprise “Mykolaivelektrotrans” they assured that during hot weather the condition of the rails and other tram infrastructure is under enhanced control. This is necessary to detect possible deformations in time and to guarantee the safety of passenger transportation.
