Mykolaiv has drinking water again: the construction of a new water supply system has been completed

In Mykolaiv, the construction of a new modern water supply system has been completed. From now on nearly 500,000 city residents are once again provided with quality drinking water.

This was reported on 18 June 2026 by the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.

After the destruction of the main water pipeline in 2022, the restoration of the water supply became one of the state’s key infrastructure projects and one of the most painful issues for the residents of Mykolaiv. The city lived for years with problematic tap water, and concerns about its quality constantly caused public outrage and distrust.

According to the ministry, during this time a new main water pipeline nearly 68 km long, 3 pumping stations, a modern water treatment complex, and additional energy-efficient infrastructure facilities were built.

The final stage was the commissioning of a preliminary water treatment station with a capacity of 120 thousand cubic meters per day. Currently, according to the Ministry of Development, all facilities are operating in normal mode.

The Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine – Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba stated that a comprehensive solution was implemented for Mykolaiv: from the new pipeline to treatment facilities and energy-efficient infrastructure.

“For Mykolaiv we implemented a comprehensive solution — we built a new water pipeline, pumping stations, a modern water treatment complex and energy-efficient infrastructure to ensure its uninterrupted operation. This is an example of what Ukraine’s recovery should look like. We have created a modern, resilient system that will work for people and meet European standards, and we can say: Mykolaiv again has quality drinking water.”

The construction of the water treatment station, costing about 800 million UAH, was completed without attracting additional financing. According to the ministry, the funds were found thanks to savings during the construction of the pipeline.

The Ministry of Development emphasizes that this is one of the largest recovery infrastructure projects implemented in Ukraine during the full-scale war.

For Mykolaiv this project has not only technical but also symbolic significance. After the pipeline was destroyed by Russian occupiers, the city effectively lost normal centralized water supply. For years people complained about water quality, smell, color, sediment, and the inability to use it as drinking water without additional treatment.
