In the Mykolaiv region, a 24-year-old driver of a Hyundai Sonata fatally struck a 54-year-old pedestrian at a crosswalk

In the city of Pivdennoukrainsk in the Mykolaiv Oblast, on the morning of 14 June on Ob’їzna Street a Hyundai Sonata driven by a 24-year-old driver struck a 54-year-old pedestrian; the man died from his injuries.

The incident was reported by the Mykolaiv Oblast police.

According to preliminary information, the accident occurred at about 07:00, when the Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 24-year-old driver, struck a 54-year-old man.

Law enforcement preliminarily established that the pedestrian was crossing the road, likely at an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing.

The victim died at the scene from his injuries before medics arrived.

Investigators have preliminarily classified the incident under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of traffic safety rules or the operation of transport that resulted in the death of the victim; the sanction provides for up to 8 years’ imprisonment.

Law enforcement is currently clarifying all the details and causes of the accident.
