In Mykolaiv Oblast, a young man stole his neighbor's car and fell asleep in it after 7 km
A Mazda 626 was found in Stantsiyne within a few hours, and the person involved had previously faced criminal charges
In the Bashtanskyi district, law enforcement announced suspicion against a 24-year-old resident of Novyi Buh, who is considered to be involved in the unlawful taking of a neighbor’s car; the incident occurred on the morning of May 11 in the Mykolaiv region.
According to the police, a 41-year-old local resident appealed to Police Station No.1 of the Bashtanskyi district and reported the disappearance of his Mazda 626, which had been parked near the house, and whose keys he had left inside.
Investigators together with operatives and patrol officers within a few hours established the location of the car in the settlement of Stantsiine of the Novobuzka community, approximately 7 kilometers from the place of the theft.
Behind the wheel they found a 24-year-old local resident who had previously had problems with the law. The man told police that he saw his neighbor’s car near the yard, took the opportunity to go for a ride, drove to a neighboring settlement, locked himself in the car and fell asleep.
Under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office, the suspect was notified of suspicion under part 1 of Art. 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — unlawful taking of a vehicle, which carries a penalty of up to 5 years of imprisonment.
The car was seized to carry out the necessary investigative actions, after which it will be returned to the owner. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
