A 16-year-old, while showing off his brother’s award pistol, fatally wounded a 17-year-old friend
The incident occurred on April 26 during a meeting of teenagers at a home; a case has been opened under Article 119 of the Criminal Code, and investigators are determining the source and accessibility of the weapon
In the settlement of Solone in the Dnipropetrovsk region on April 26, during a demonstration of a weapon a 16-year-old teenager accidentally shot his friend in the chest; the 17-year-old boy died at the scene; the police have opened proceedings under Art. 119 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and are conducting a pre-trial investigation.
The incident was reported by the Informator publication, citing a comment from the Main Department of the National Police of the Dnipro district, clarifying that the group of teenagers was at the home of one of them.
According to preliminary information, the host took out an award pistol belonging to his older brother and began showing it to his friends.
During careless handling of the weapon a shot was fired, the bullet hit the chest area of one of those present, and the 17-year-old victim died before medics arrived.
Law enforcement are trying to determine who is the legal owner of the pistol and why it was freely accessible to minors.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated on the grounds of the offense provided for in Art. 119 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (homicide by negligence); necessary investigative actions are ongoing.
