Tears, excitement, and victories: how children "lit up" the parquet in Mykolaiv
While the adults are fighting — the children dance: a tournament that became a breath of normality
An open city tournament in dance sport took place in Mykolaiv, which gathered not only local ensembles but also participants from other towns of the region and Kherson. This was reported on April 25, 2026 by the mayor Oleksandr Senkevych.
According to him, such events are especially important during wartime, as they give children the opportunity, even for a few hours, to feel a normal life — with the excitement before a performance, emotions on stage and the joy of the result.
“It’s nice to see how children step onto the dance floor, get nervous, try their best and finally receive their own emotions from the performances. I thank the tournament organizer – the head of the folk ballroom dance ensemble “Hraziya” – Roman and our sports department. When there is such joint work, events that the city truly needs appear. I thank the children for their work and the courage to perform, and the parents — for their support and belief in them. And special gratitude to our Armed Forces of Ukraine. Thanks to you, in Mykolaiv it is possible to hold such tournaments and give children a normal childhood”, – said Oleksandr Senkevych.
The mayor also emphasized that it is precisely thanks to the Ukrainian military that the city is able to hold such events and support the development of children even under conditions of a full-scale war. The tournament became another example of how, in difficult conditions, Mykolaiv continues to live, develop youth sport and create space for children’s emotions, which are especially valuable today.
