Water in Mykolaiv is being chlorinated further: the smell may become stronger
The laboratory tests water in distribution networks and directly at consumers’ premises
Additional chlorination of water in Mykolaiv may result in a more noticeable chlorine smell from the tap. According to Mykolaivvodokanal, the water remains safe for residents as long as established standards are met.
To monitor water quality at every stage of supply, the utility’s laboratory tests water daily at dozens of monitoring points. These are located in all districts of the city, and testing covers both the distribution network and water at end users’ homes.
During disinfection, particular attention is paid to residual chlorine. Its concentration is measured continuously: specialists must ensure there is enough chlorine to kill bacteria while keeping its content safe for people.
The physical and chemical analysis of water includes the following indicators:
- pH level;
- turbidity;
- color;
- content of other substances.
The laboratory also conducts bacteriological tests. Samples are cultured to assess the epidemiological safety of the water.
