An assailant knocked a man to the ground and stole his backpack in Mykolaiv
The suspect was found in a makeshift shelter in a wooded area
On the evening of October 23, police received a report from a 46-year-old resident of Mykolaiv about a robbery on Bratska Street. According to the complainant, an unknown man knocked him to the ground, took his backpack containing personal belongings, and fled in an unknown direction.
Officers and an investigative team from Police Department No. 3 of the Mykolaiv District Police Department responded to the call. During initial investigative and search measures, police found the complainant’s belongings near the scene of the robbery.
Specialists from the Criminal Analysis Department of the regional police headquarters joined efforts to identify the attacker. Law enforcement officers established that the crime involved a 26-year-old local resident. He had previously served time for property crimes.
Officers tracked down the man within 24 hours: he was hiding from law enforcement in a makeshift shelter in a wooded area. Police formally detained him.
Under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office, investigators notified the detainee that he was suspected of committing robbery under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—robbery committed under martial law. He faces up to ten years in prison.
The court is expected to determine a preventive measure for the suspect soon. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
