On energy efficiency and green reconstruction: a media hub has opened in Mykolaiv
Journalists will be able to obtain expert commentary and data for their stories
The Southern Media Hub has begun operating in Mykolaiv. The new venue is intended to help journalists report more thoroughly on energy efficiency, green reconstruction, and the opportunities offered by programs of the Energy Efficiency Fund.
The hub creates opportunities for sharing information and building connections among media professionals, industry experts, and representatives of institutions. Through this collaboration, journalists will be able to obtain the data and expert commentary they need for their publications.
The project was supported by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ). There are now 4 such venues operating across Ukraine.
The opening was attended by First Deputy Mayor Vitalii Lukov. He highlighted the importance of initiatives that foster dialogue between the media and the expert community and help disseminate expert information about energy and recovery. The official called residents’ awareness of the opportunities available one of the factors contributing to energy resilience.
“It is important for people to understand what opportunities exist in energy efficiency and how support programs work,” said Vitalii Lukov.
Olha Havelya, head of the Energy Efficiency Center, spoke about several support programs available in Mykolaiv for condominium associations implementing energy-efficiency measures. One of the most popular is the “Revolving Fund” program run by the Energy Efficient Cities of Ukraine association. It allows condominium associations to obtain interest-free loans to improve energy efficiency and modernize their buildings.
At the end of 2025, Mykolaiv allocated UAH 3 million to the fund. After that, the first condominium associations began receiving interest-free loans.
“So far, 40 condominium associations have taken advantage of the revolving fund,” said Olha Havelya.
Detailed information about current energy-efficiency programs and projects is available at the Mykolaiv Energy Efficiency Center. As its head noted, the center’s specialists are ready to work with the media and advise anyone who wants to make their homes more energy efficient.
