More than €1.3 billion from Germany: Ukraine will strengthen its air defenses and prepare the energy sector for winter

Ukraine will receive from Germany a new aid package worth more than €1.3 billion. It combines military support and energy financing to prepare for winter. The package was announced today, 4 October, at a joint press conference in Kyiv by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. According to UNIAN.

One of the directions will be the production of new interceptors against Russian rocket-powered drones. As Volodymyr Zelensky explained, the German aid is intended to ensure the manufacture in Ukraine of 2,000 interceptors «Bars».

For energy needs Germany is separately allocating around €350 million. To prepare Ukraine for the winter period these funds will go, in particular, to:

• generators;
• transformer substations;
• repair kits.

Friedrich Merz also named the military and technical equipment that Germany will supply to Ukraine:

• long-range weapons;
• combat drones;
• satellite equipment.

Currently there are 15 agreements and documents between Ukraine and Germany covering security cooperation, production, procurement and joint projects. The total value of these arrangements amounts to more than €8.5 billion.

Germany also plans to use Ukrainian experience in countering Russian hybrid attacks. This intention is linked to a series of incidents involving drones, cyberattacks and sabotage on German territory.
