A 65-year-old man died in a Kyiv shelter after explosions

During the nighttime attack September 24 in an underground passage in Kyiv, 65-year-old Viktor Yerko died. The man had gone there to shelter from the shelling, but after the explosions he became unwell.

According to journalist Denys Bulavin, the Kyiv resident brought a folding chair with him. A few minutes after the explosions he fainted and began to suffocate. Medical personnel who arrived at the passage pronounced him dead.

Viktor Yerko lived alone in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv and during every shelling he went down to the underground passage. His daughter said that after the start of the full-scale war the family left the capital. Because of this she had not seen her father for almost five years, but they spoke by phone every day.

The man is survived by two children and two grandchildren. According to his daughter, he worked in the construction sector his entire life and did not stop working even after retirement.

On the night of September 24 Russia attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles and drones. City authorities reported two people killed and eight injured as a result of the strike.

During the same attack the Kyiv City Maternity Hospital No.2 was damaged. None of the patients or medical staff were harmed — at the time of the strike everyone was in shelters.
