Dogs near the house divided the townspeople: some speak of attacks, others of human cruelty
A pack near a dental clinic and a children's playground: Mykolaiv residents argue over who poses the greater danger
In Mykolaiv a resident of the building on Tsentralnyi Avenue, 124a complained about a large pack of stray dogs, because of which, she says, people are sometimes afraid to enter the yard. The corresponding post was left by Тетяна Якимчук in the Facebook group Contact Center at the Mykolaiv City Council.
According to the woman, the dogs do not have chips, in the morning they walk through neighbouring yards, and during the day they gather near the “Usmishka” dental clinic and a medical equipment store.
“They have repeatedly attacked residents of the buildings. Sometimes it is scary to enter the yard. Please pay attention and respond,” the author of the appeal wrote.
The publication sparked an active and rather heated discussion. Some commenters confirmed that the dogs’ behavior can be dangerous.
In particular, Ганна Якимчук stated that she herself recently encountered the pack:
“They attacked me recently. I was just leaving the yard. Fortunately, some men were passing by — they saved me,” she wrote.
Another resident, Лора Стоянова, said that the dogs allegedly come to the nearby children’s playground. According to her, the animals “chew the toys”, and when she tried to drive them away, the dogs rushed toward her. The woman also noted that children from a kindergarten walk past this place.
At the same time, a significant portion of discussion participants defended the animals.
One of the most popular comments was left by Оксана Порковська:
“Most people pose a greater danger than stray dogs, but unfortunately they are not written about so often. Treat animals with love — and they will repay you in kind.”
Her comment received more than 180 reactions.
Тетяна Засядьвовк suggested an alternative way to solve the problem:
“A hungry dog is angry. Have you tried feeding it? Feed them — they will become kinder.”
This comment was supported by more than 110 users.
Another participant in the discussion, Nastya Nastusha, strongly disagreed with statements about the pack’s aggressiveness:
“Very calm, they don’t bother anyone!!!!”
At the same time Ірина Гарбар Ширенко noted that having a chip or being sterilized does not guarantee the absence of aggressive behavior:
“A chipped dog will not reproduce, but it will still bite and attack. There have already been repeated cases.”
Comments also repeatedly called to not poison or kill the animals, but to pass information to city services, carry out sterilization and control the size of the pack. Thus, Людмила Сердюк noted that poisoning will not solve the problem for long, since if there is a food base, one pack may later be replaced by another. She urged to sterilize the animals.
At the end of the discussion one of the users also tagged KP MMR “Centre for Animal Protection”, drawing the enterprise’s attention to the situation.
Thus, the complaint about the dogs turned into a dispute among residents: some demand securing the yard and adjacent area from the pack, others call not to demonize stray animals and to solve the problem through sterilization, chipping and responsible behaviour.
