Two girls stole flowers from a grave as a "gift" for their teacher

September 1 at the city cemetery in Vynohradiv, Zakarpattia Oblast two local women, according to investigators, stole flowers from a grave. Both girls were notified of suspicion, the Zakarpattia Oblast Police said.

Investigators established that the girls approached one of the burials and took fresh flowers and ceremonial floral arrangements. They scattered other plants, and moved ceremonial baskets and the remaining items left by the relatives of the deceased.

According to preliminary findings by law enforcement, the girls intended to “gift” the flowers stolen from the grave to a teacher. They had long-standing hostile relations with the teacher.

The actions of the suspects were qualified under Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — desecration of a grave, another burial place, or a corpse, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.

The sanction provides for restriction of liberty for a term of 4 to 5 years or imprisonment for a term of 4 to 7 years. Investigative actions in the case are ongoing.
