NATO fighter jets shot down a drone over Lithuania for the first time

On the night of September 15, NATO fighters shot down a drone in the airspace of Lithuania for the first time. The country’s president, Gitanas Nausėda, reported this on the social network X.

Prior to that, residents received mobile phone alerts about a possible threat. According to Lithuanian media, a yellow danger level was introduced in the country around midnight.

At 01:00 the head of the NKVC, Vilmantas Vitkauskas, clarified that the drone was shot down in Kaunas County, in Kaišiadorys district, near the village of Pratkuny. According to preliminary information, the drone entered Lithuania from the territory of Belarus.

The military police and emergency services personnel were dispatched to the scene.

Gitanas Nausėda said:

The drone that entered Lithuania’s airspace was destroyed by NATO fighters. Thank you to our allies for the prompt response.

The President emphasized that such actions are vital against the backdrop of increasing Russian aggression towards Ukraine.
