Scandal at the highest level: the Prosecutor General of Ukraine signed a notice of suspicion against the head of NABU and left the country
Kravchenko challenged NABU and SAP: Zelensky calls for his resignation
The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Kravchenko said that before his dismissal he signed a notice of suspicion against the NABU director Semen Kryvonos, as well as another person whom he called close to the head of the SAP Oleksandr Klymenko. Kravchenko reported this on the morning of 14 September 2026 in a video statement.
According to the prosecutor general, Kryvonos is suspected of forging official documents to obtain an improper benefit on an especially large scale and of fictitious adoption, which allegedly was intended to create grounds for evading liability in court. Kravchenko also said that he had not previously made the relevant procedural decisions because of the president’s position. In addition, he accused representatives of the anti-corruption bodies of attempting to obtain “immunity” for their employees.
“I advise Semen Kryvonos and Oleksandr Klymenko to resign today, without dragging agencies and collectives into a personal conflict and a fight for themselves and their close circle”, – said Kravchenko.
The second notice he signed, according to the prosecutor general, concerns a person close to the head of the SAP. Kravchenko claims it involves possible influence on judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court, offering an improper benefit and assisting in evasion of mobilization.
NABU and the SAP rejected Kravchenko’s accusations and called his actions a continuation of a “systemic attack on independent anti-corruption bodies”. The agencies emphasized that as of the morning of 14 September Kryvonos had not been officially served any suspicion. They also denied the prosecutor general’s statements about the seizure of criminal cases during searches and said that they never offered or demanded “immunity” for their employees or other persons.
“NABU and the SAP do not take part in political struggle. We act exclusively within the law and are ready to defend the independence of the anti-corruption system”, – the anti-corruption bodies said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted sharply to the situation. He called on the Verkhovna Rada to urgently support the dismissal of Ruslan Kravchenko.
“This Prosecutor General has only one way: dismissal from office. That is what I told him. Ukraine has seen all the reasons”, – said Zelensky.
The president added that if Kravchenko considers the situation political pressure, he may call it that, but asked parliamentarians to urgently support the dismissal.
Against this background, information has appeared that on the night of 14 September Kravchenko left Ukraine. According to sources of “UP” in law enforcement agencies, he crossed the state border at about 2:30 in an official vehicle. Preliminary, the reason for the departure was a business trip to Lithuania.
Kravchenko himself later confirmed that he is abroad, but said it was an official business trip. According to him, during the planned meetings he intends to inform international partners of his assessment of the situation around the anti-corruption bodies.
Earlier, Kravchenko submitted a resignation letter after a meeting with the president. This happened against the backdrop of the NABU and SAP operation “Carthage”, within which the anti-corruption bodies are investigating possible “protection” of fraudulent call centers by prosecution officials.
Now the final decision must be made by parliament. The head of the “Servant of the People” faction, Davyd Arakhamia said that the vote on the dismissal of Ruslan Kravchenko from the post of Prosecutor General is scheduled for 15 September.
