Zavodskyi District Court of Mykolaiv found a previously convicted local resident guilty of robbing a taxi driver with an accomplice and illegally seizing his vehicle. Under the court’s verdict, the man was sentenced to 9 years imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The attack occurred on 26 July 2025 in the area of . In the cabin of a KIA Sorento, the assailant put a knife to the driver’s throat and, threatening violence, took his belongings:

  • a mobile phone, Samsung Galaxy A-35;
  • a silver chain weighing 77.9 grams;
  • property with a total value of over 34,000 hryvnias.

After that, the attackers beat the taxi driver and forcibly took his car, a Mitsubishi Galant. The value of the vehicle exceeded 134,000 hryvnias.

At trial, the defendant pleaded not guilty. He claimed that he had allegedly bought the car through an advertisement on OLX with his parents’ money, had given the victim 100,000 hryvnias, and considered the car his.

The victim’s and witnesses’ testimony, as well as the investigative action protocols, refuted this version. The victim said the attackers beat him, threatened him with a knife and a gun, and then forcibly took his belongings and the car. A witness confirmed he saw the man in a shocked state with injuries and helped call the police.

“The defendant acted repeatedly, under conditions of martial law, using violence dangerous to the life and health of the victim,” the court decision states.

The court qualified the man’s actions under part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — robbery committed repeatedly under conditions of martial law. The illegal seizure of a vehicle by a group of persons with the use of violence dangerous to the life and health of the victim was qualified under part 1 of Article 28 and part 3 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As a result, the court sentenced the man to 9 years imprisonment with confiscation of property.
