In the Desnianskyi district of Kyiv, special forces detained a serviceman suspected of a robbery at a gas station. Threatening two cashiers with a knife, the man took their mobile phones.

This was 21 July 2026 at 10:55 reported by the communication department of the Kyiv police.

A report about the attack was received by law enforcement from a gas station employee on Brovarskyi Avenue. According to the police, an unknown man burst into the station’s premises and began threatening two cashiers with a knife.

The attacker took the employees’ mobile phones. The victims managed to run out of the gas station premises and hide in a storeroom.

Within minutes, officers of Special Police Regiment No.1 arrived at the scene. Law enforcement quickly neutralized and detained the armed man.

The perpetrator turned out to be a 28-year-old native of Volyn Oblast. According to the police, he is a serviceman who was listed as absent without leave (AWOL) from his unit.

The man was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators of the Desnianskyi Police Department, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, notified the detainee of suspicion under part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He is charged with robbery combined with violence dangerous to the health of the victims, committed under martial law conditions

The article’s penalty provides for up to 15 years of imprisonment.
