In Mykolaiv, a man broke the lock on a locker and stole a bag
The bag contained money, jewelry, and personal belongings
After damaging the lock on a storage locker in a supermarket, the suspect stole a bag containing cash, jewelry and other personal items belonging to a shopper. Law enforcement quickly identified the perpetrator, and investigators detained him through procedural measures. He faces up to eight years in prison for the offense.
September 3 a local resident aged 70 contacted Police Station No. 1 of the Mykolaiv District Police Department. The woman reported that she had left personal belongings and cash in a bag in the locker of one of Mykolaiv’s supermarkets.
At the scene, the local police’s investigative-operational team established that the theft occurred while the victim was shopping. The perpetrator damaged the locker lock, after which he stole the woman’s bag and fled the scene.
During investigative and search operations, law enforcement identified the thief. He turned out to be a 47-year-old local resident who had repeatedly come to the attention of the police for committing property crimes. Officers recovered the bag from the man containing part of the victim’s money and jewelry.
After the appropriate measures are completed, the recovered items will be returned to the owner.
Investigators detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and, under the procedural guidance of the District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Mykolaiv, notified him of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — theft committed under martial law. The article’s sanction provides for up to eight years of imprisonment.
A decision on the imposition of a preventive measure for the suspect is currently pending.
