27 August is associated with a document that simultaneously mentions the future Mykolaiv and Vitovka, the decision to suspend the activities of the Communist Party, a Russian shelling, and changes to public transport in the Korabelnyi District.
27 August 1789 (old style): the shipyard was named Mykolaiv, and Vitovka – Bohoyavlenske
In order No.1065 to Mykhailo Faleyev, whom Korabelov.info earlier cited, Grigory Potemkin ordered the newly built shipyard on the Inhul to be called the city Mykolaiv, and assigned the name “Bohoyavlenske” to Vitovka. The Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine clarifies that the official renaming of Vitovka is dated to 1790. The date of the order is given in the old style and corresponds to 7 September 1789 in the modern calendar.
27 August 1991: Mykolaiv Oblast implemented the decree on suspending the Communist Party
Three days after the proclamation of Ukraine’s independence, the Mykolaiv regional executive committee adopted decision No.208 on organizing the implementation of the decree of 26 August 1991 regarding the temporary suspension of the activities of the Communist Party of Ukraine. Information about this document was preserved by the State Archive of Mykolaiv Oblast.
27 August 2022: Russians shelled the outskirts of Mykolaiv
At about 04:30, Russian forces once again shelled Mykolaiv. Impacts were recorded on the outskirts of the city, but, according to preliminary information from the regional military administration, there were no fatalities or injuries.
27 August 2025: the trolleybus No.11 schedule was changed in Korabelnyi
In the Korabelnyi District of Mykolaiv, an updated timetable for trolleybus route No.11 began operating, linking Aivazovskyi Street with the district’s ring bypass. Korabelov.info wrote that during the first week routes No.11 and No.12 carried more than 6,500 passengers, after which the carrier adjusted the schedule.
27 August 2025: the promised launch of the water main had to be postponed
This date had previously been named as a target for water from the new water main to reach Mykolaiv, but on 27 August the head of the regional military administration reported that supply was expected the next day. Only on 4 September 2025 did Korabelov.info report on the test operation of the water main and the start of water delivery to the utility’s reservoirs.

27 August 1955 saw the first edition of “The Guinness Book of Records,” as the publication’s official history notes. And on 27 August 1991 the parliament in Chișinău declared the independence of the Republic of Moldova – the text of the declaration was published by the country’s Constitutional Court.
This was the significance of this date for the Korabelnyi District and Mykolaiv: from the order related to the names of the city and Bohoyavlenske to the rejection of the communist past, Russian shelling, and the development of local transport.
