Three-vehicle crash in Voznesensk: Toyota driver detained, Mercedes driver hospitalized
Toyota, Mercedes and BMW collided: three-vehicle crash ended with an arrest
In Voznesensk on the evening of 21 August 2026 a road traffic accident occurred involving immediately three vehicles – Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Mercedes-Benz E270 CDI and BMW 528. As a result of the collision the 22-year-old driver of the Mercedes was injured. Police detained the 28-year-old driver of the Toyota SUV, who, according to law enforcement, showed obvious signs of intoxication, however he refused to undergo the relevant sobriety examination. This was reported on 22 August 2026 by the Main Department of the National Police in Mykolaiv region.
The accident occurred at about 20:35 on Kyivska Street in Voznesensk. According to the circumstances preliminarily established by the police, the 28-year-old man behind the wheel of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado collided with the Mercedes-Benz E270 CDI, which was driven by a 22-year-old man.
From the impact the Mercedes continued moving and crashed into the BMW 528 that was stopped ahead. The third car was driven by another 28-year-old man. Thus, three vehicles were involved in the accident. The most affected in the crash was the driver of the Mercedes-Benz E270 CDI. He sustained bodily injuries and is currently under medical supervision. The police do not report injuries to the other participants.
While documenting the accident law enforcement established that the driver of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado had obvious signs of intoxication. At the same time the man refused to undergo a sobriety examination. Therefore it cannot yet be stated that the fact of alcohol or other intoxication has been confirmed by the results of a medical examination.
Investigators detained the 28-year-old driver of the Toyota pursuant to Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He was also notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of traffic safety rules or operation of transport that caused grievous bodily injury.
Under this article the man faces up to 8 years of imprisonment. Additionally the court may deprive him of the right to drive vehicles for a period of up to 3 years. The court is to decide on a preventive measure for the suspect in the near future. Law enforcement continue to establish all circumstances of the three-vehicle crash. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
