15 August left very different events in the history of the Korabelny District and Mykolaiv. The district experienced a large-scale sewer collector failure, Mykolaiv residents for the first time raised a huge state flag on a flagpole manufactured by “Okean”, Russian forces struck the city with rockets, and a few years later infrastructure for new trolleybus routes appeared in Korabelny.

15 August 2019: Korabelny District was suffocating due to a collector accident

In the Korabelny District of Mykolaiv a serious sewer collector accident had been ongoing for several days. As reported Korabelov.info, sewage flooded the basement of the building at Bohoyavlenskyi Avenue, 340/2, where a medical outpatient clinic, the registry office, a dental clinic and shops were located. During inspection the depth of flooding in some places reached 1.5 meters.

15 August 2021: a giant Ukrainian flag was raised in Mykolaiv for the first time

In the square “Young Heroes” in Mykolaiv a huge state flag measuring 18×12 meters was raised for the first time — during a test the cloth was lifted to approximately 70 meters. The 72-meter flagpole itself, weighing about 30 tons, had earlier been manufactured at the shipbuilding plant “Okean” in the Korabelny District.

15 August 2022: Mykolaiv was hit by 8 S-300 missiles

On the night of 15 August 2022 Russian forces again attacked Mykolaiv: the then head of the regional military administration, Vitalii Kim, reported 8 rocket strikes, reportedly by S-300 missiles. In one educational facility 3 floors collapsed; private houses, a hotel, industrial infrastructure and an enterprise were also damaged. According to information at the time, there were no dead or wounded.

15 August 2024: the “Okean” plant was awarded for the defense of Mykolaiv

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych reported that the team of the shipbuilding plant “Okean” was awarded the distinction “For the Defense of Mykolaiv” II degree for the enterprise’s contribution to the city’s defense. The plant’s general director, Andrii Fatianov, received a separate “For the Defense of Mykolaiv” medal.

15 August 2024: a defender from Korabelny, Vadym Semeniuk, was killed

On that day, during the Kursk operation, serviceman Vadym Oleksandrovych Semeniuk, call sign “Pryanik”, was killed. As Korabelov.info later reported, he studied at schools No.48 and No.49, at a vocational lyceum in the Korabelny District, worked at the port, and on 29 March 2023 voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served in the 61st Separate Mechanized Brigade. A farewell in Mykolaiv was only possible in November 2025.

15 August 2025: in Korabelny they completed the “charging” for trolleybuses

In the Korabelny District of Mykolaiv they completed the installation of a charging station for trolleybuses with autonomous running. It received 6 charging columns, a dispatch center and backup generators. This infrastructure made it possible to start running through the district 2 new trolleybus routes from 18 August.

Thus remained the date 15 August for the Korabelny District and Mykolaiv: utility accidents and major city projects, the plant “Okean”, Russian missile strikes, the memory of a fallen fellow countryman and the gradual return of public transport to remote neighborhoods.
