Drove around the area searching for military facilities: 37-year-old man to stand trial
A 37-year-old resident of Mykolaiv Oblast is accused of passing information to Russian security services about air defense positions and military depots. The case has already been sent to court; the man faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a 37-year-old resident of Mykolaiv Oblast who is accused of passing information to Russian security services to prepare air strikes on the region. This was reported on 4 August 2026 by the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office and the SBU Directorate in Mykolaiv Oblast.
According to the investigation, the man came to the attention of representatives of Russia because of publications in Telegram channels supporting the Kremlin regime and Russian armed formations. The Russian special services were most interested in air defense firing positions and the locations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ logistics warehouses in southern Ukraine. To collect information, the man allegedly, under the guise of handling everyday matters, traveled around the area looking for objects needed by the enemy. The collected information, according to the investigation, was passed to a Russian handler via a messenger. In text messages the accused indicated the locations of potential “targets”.
SBU counterintelligence officers documented his alleged illegal activities and detained him at his place of residence. At the same time, the service took measures to secure the relevant locations of the Defence Forces. The man was notified of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law, under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. After the pre-trial investigation was completed, the indictment was sent to court. If found guilty, the accused faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
