Mykolaiv City Council asks the Cabinet of Ministers to change the rules for installing automated traffic enforcement cameras
They want to install cameras in potentially dangerous areas
July 30 at the 56th regular session of the Mykolaiv City Council the deputies supported an appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine regarding changes to the operation of the system for automated recording of traffic rule violations.
The purpose of the appeal is to make roads safer and to prevent accidents before a dangerous section appears in the official statistics of road traffic accidents.
The deputies propose:
- allowing communities to install automatic enforcement cameras not only in places where many accidents have already occurred, but also on potentially dangerous sections;
- increasing the share of fine revenue that will go to the local budget if the community itself financed the installation of the cameras.
According to the deputies, such changes will help reduce the number of road traffic accidents, improve road safety and give communities more opportunities to invest in modern means of road monitoring and control.
This will also allow the patrol police to devote more attention to incidents that require the direct presence of law enforcement officers.
