In Mykolaiv, a serviceman was presented with the keys to an official apartment

In Mykolaiv, a servicemember received a service apartment. The keys to the dwelling were presented to the defender by Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych.

The city’s mayor noted that the community continues to support servicemembers who defend Ukraine, despite the limited means of the municipal budget.

According to Oleksandr Senkevych, apartments that revert to community ownership as unclaimed inheritance are allocated according to the waiting list. First and foremost, the city seeks to provide housing for servicemembers whose service and courage set an example for others.

The mayor also emphasized that most of the apartments transferred by the community are not new and require repairs. At the same time, this is a real opportunity to support defenders in securing housing.

More than 6200 people are on the housing register in Mykolaiv and need improved living conditions. Therefore, every dwelling that becomes municipal property is important for the community.

Oleksandr Senkevych thanked the Armed Forces of Ukraine and everyone who defends the country. He expressed hope that the war will end soon, that military PIT will be returned to communities, and that the city will be able to continue the program of providing housing for servicemembers who remain to serve in Mykolaiv.

Previously, Mykolaiv had a municipal support program for servicemembers that was financed from receipts of military PIT. Under it, the city purchased apartments and provided monetary compensation for the purchase of housing, allowing defenders to choose accommodations according to their needs.

After changes to budget legislation at the end of 2023, military PIT was directed to the state budget. Because of this, funding for the program at the local level stopped; however, the city authorities hope to restore this support mechanism in the future.
