City residents demand that all structures in the park be inspected

During a walk in the park “Heart of the City” in Mykolaiv, a child seriously injured their leg on a metal angle that was protruding from the bench structure. The incident occurred on 11 July 2026.

The incident was reported on 14 July 2026 by Viktoriya Viktorova in the Facebook group “Contact Center at the Mykolaiv City Council”.

“On Saturday, 11 July, during a walk in the “Heart of the City” park in Mykolaiv our daughter suffered a serious injury.
She cut her shin down to the bone on a metal angle protruding from the bench structure. The wound turned out to be deep. We urgently went to the trauma center, where the child received surgical wound treatment and stitches.
Luckily, we had a first-aid kit in the car, so we were able to stop the bleeding immediately and provide first aid.
But that does not change the main point. Such metal elements protruding where children walk and play every day can lead to very serious consequences.
I would very much like the responsible services to pay attention to this bench and check whether there are similar dangerous elements on other benches in the park. If the problem can be fixed — it is better to do it now than to wait until another child is harmed.
A separate request to parents: be careful during walks. We could not even imagine that an ordinary bench could be the cause of such a serious injury. If representatives of the city authorities or the services responsible for maintaining the “Heart of the City” park see this post, please pay attention to this spot and check its safety.

The Contact Center at the Mykolaiv City Council forwarded the appeal to the Operational Response Service. The complaint is currently being processed and has been assigned for execution to the municipal enterprise “Mykolaiv Parks”. 29 days have been allocated for its handling.

The post sparked active discussion among residents and parents. Some commenters supported the author of the appeal and urged checks of public places; others believe it is impossible to protect children from all possible injuries.

“There’s also a tree growing there, you could hit your forehead on it. Is that dangerous too? You have to watch where you’re running. These are children and you can’t insure them against everything. The boards are held by those metal corners. And you can open a door and hit yourself on a knot, that happens too. Wishing the child a speedy recovery. And be more careful in the future,” — Lyudmyla.
“I’m very grateful to parents who write about their experience and warn others. It would be very appropriate to check all playgrounds in public places, which the authorities never do. Only afterwards…”, — Alina.
“In Kharkiv, municipal workers even wash benches for citizens, and in other cities of Ukraine there are playgrounds for children with soft surfacing and trampolines. Can you imagine? That people no longer want to swallow such treatment — that’s normal. It’s good that the mother did not keep quiet and publicized this situation! If there were more such active citizens,” — Olena.
“We also have minibuses with such hidden structures. Last summer I injured my backside and tore my clothes. I regret not filing a complaint and only telling the driver verbally… Without official complaints nothing changes, although sometimes those are ignored too. Such problems must be highlighted on the internet,” — Svitlana.
