The former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade, Stanislav Luchanov is being sought after he voluntarily left his place of service. The serviceman has already been notified of suspicion of involvement in the unlawful deprivation of liberty and the intentional killing of two civilian residents of the Kyiv region.

Operational Command “North” officially confirmed that the whereabouts of the commander of military unit A5001 are being established. Other servicemen who appear in the criminal proceedings have been suspended from performing their duties. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, law enforcement agencies are also checking the circumstances of the unilateral departure of the former commander from the military unit.

At the direction of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Internal Security Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, together with the police of the Kyiv region, conducted a complex of operational-search and investigative measures. The Military Law Enforcement Service stated that law enforcement officers exposed an organized group whose members are accused of kidnapping and the intentional killing of two civilians.

Suspicions were announced to Stanislav Luchanov and to all participants in the crime identified so far. Detentions were carried out in several regions of Ukraine. The Military Law Enforcement Service noted that law enforcement officers identified the suspects, documented their actions, and formed the necessary body of evidence.

Brothers taken from their own home

The victims of the crime were brothers Maksym Moseichuk and Roman Moseichuk, who lived in the village of Kalynivka, Bila Tserkva district, Kyiv region. On the night of June 27 to 28, 2026, seven people broke onto the men’s yard, after which the brothers were forcibly placed into a vehicle and taken away in an unknown direction.

At first the relatives did not know where Maksym Moseichuk and Roman Moseichuk were. Their absence was noticed a few days later by their brother Serhii Moseichuk. Residents of Kalynivka said that on the night of the kidnapping they heard gunshots in the village and learned about the crime from law enforcement officers.

According to sources of “Ukrainska Pravda” within law enforcement agencies, the abducted men were taken to the Poltava region, where they were killed. The bodies, which preliminary data indicate belong to the brothers, have already been exhumed. Final conclusions regarding their identification are to be provided by experts.

The criminal proceedings are being investigated under paragraph 1 of part 2 of article 115 and part 3 of article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional murder of two or more persons and unlawful deprivation of liberty or kidnapping of a person committed by an organized group or with grave consequences.

Detained 9 servicemen, ex-commander disappeared

In the case, 9 servicemen of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade were detained. Among them was battalion commander Oleksii Dolholenko, whom the investigation also suspects of involvement in the killing. During the court hearing he did not name a possible instigator of the crime.

The court imposed preventive measures of detention for 60 days on seven servicemen. Later the same preventive measure was applied to the eighth suspect. According to civic activists, information about the time and place of some court hearings was effectively not published, preventing the public from monitoring the case proceedings.

After his subordinates were detained, Stanislav Luchanov stopped responding and voluntarily left his place of service. Operational Command “North” confirmed he is being searched for, but did not report when exactly he left the unit or whether he had weapons, official documents, or a vehicle with him.

At the same time, the wording that he is “being searched for” currently means that law enforcement agencies and military command are establishing the whereabouts of Stanislav Luchanov. There is no official information about his detention at the time these reports were published.

Version about revenge over motorcycle noise

According to sources of “Ukrainska Pravda”, the investigation is considering the version that the crime stemmed from a domestic conflict. It is likely that Stanislav Luchanov ordered subordinates to abduct civilians whom they believed were connected to a conflict with his family. At the same time, all details and the motive for the crime still need to be proven during the pre-trial investigation.

Residents of Kalynivka told hromadske that the commander’s wife, Daryna Luchanova, and her mother lived in the village. According to locals, Daryna Luchanova complained about motorcycle noise that allegedly disturbed her small child. This information is based on villagers’ testimonies and has not yet been confirmed by official investigative conclusions.

Shortly before the kidnapping, servicemen allegedly went around the village with a list and asked residents for the addresses of people who owned motorcycles. The list included Serhii Moseichuk — the brothers’ brother. The names of Maksym Moseichuk and Roman Moseichuk were reportedly not on the list, according to locals.

Thus, the abducted people may not have been the ones the servicemen were initially looking for. Why the suspects took Maksym Moseichuk and Roman Moseichuk in particular, whether they tried to verify their identities, and who gave the final order remain questions for the investigation.

One of the brothers defended Kyiv, their father died at the front

Maksym Moseichuk served in the National Guard of Ukraine for about 2.5 years. Since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion he participated in the defense of Kyiv, serving as a grenadier and assault soldier. According to his godfather Vasyl Dmytriienko, near Brovary, Maksym Moseichuk destroyed two Russian tanks.

The brothers’ father, Serhii Moseichuk Sr., also took up the defense of Ukraine in the early days of the full-scale war and served in the 28th Rifle Battalion. He died on July 20, 2023, when a vehicle with servicemen hit a mine on the way to positions. Of the six people who were in the vehicle, only two survived.

In December 2023, a petition was registered on the President of Ukraine’s website to posthumously award Serhii Moseichuk Sr. the title of Hero of Ukraine. As of July 11, 2026, the appeal had gathered almost 26 thousand signatures and was under review.

What is known about Stanislav Luchanov

Stanislav Luchanov headed the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade in February 2026. Before that he was chief of staff of the 425th Separate Assault Regiment “Skelia”. After the initiation of the criminal proceedings, he is referred to as the brigade’s former commander.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasized that rank, military position, or previous merits cannot exempt suspects from criminal liability if their guilt is proven.

“If the investigation proves guilt — they will be held accountable for each committed crime regardless of position or previous merits of the suspects”.

Due to public resonance, Oleksandr Syrskyi instructed to strengthen control over military discipline, compliance with the law, and commanders’ actions toward subordinates. The Military Law Enforcement Service and the General Staff stated full cooperation with the investigation and zero tolerance for unlawful actions by servicemen.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are establishing the exact role of each suspect, possible accomplices, the place where the brothers were killed, and the whereabouts of Stanislav Luchanov. According to the presumption of innocence, the suspects are considered innocent until their guilt is proven in court.
