Broken nose and spinal injury: a group of young men in Poland beat a Ukrainian youth
"They were laughing that they'd beaten a Ukrainian": the victim's family is looking for witnesses to the attack
In Polish Wrocław, a group of young men brutally beat 19-year-old Ukrainian Volodymyr. The attack occurred on July 4, 2026 at around 8:00 PM on Słodowa Island, where many people were present at the time. The victim associates the aggression with the attackers having heard his phone conversation in Ukrainian. This was reported by Radio Wrocław.
Volodymyr was relaxing with his girlfriend and friends. After a phone call with his parents in Ukrainian, an unfamiliar peer approached him and rudely demanded that he hand over his electronic cigarette. When the young man refused, the attacker whistled, calling other members of the group. According to the victim, the attackers pulled his T-shirt over his face, knocked him to the ground and began to beat him on the head and torso.
“I could not see anything and could not defend myself,” Volodymyr said.
As a result of the beating, the young man has two broken nasal bones, a deformed nasal cartilage, numerous bruises and a spinal injury. A forensic medical examination determined injuries of moderate severity, the treatment of which will last more than seven days.
The victim claims that after the attack the young men laughed and said that “they beat a Ukrainian”. Volodymyr’s friends called the police and an ambulance, but the attackers fled when they heard the approaching services.
The incident was initially recorded as a fight. Later Volodymyr, together with his parents, officially filed a report of the beating with the Wrocław-Ołbin police station. Law enforcement has opened proceedings and is establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
The victim’s family is appealing to people who were on Słodowa Island on the evening of July 4 and may have seen the attack, asking them to report any information they have to the police.
