Water claims lives: eight people have drowned in the Mykolaiv region since the beginning of the year
At the same time, rescuers managed to save 8 people, including 2 children
Since the beginning of 2026, 12 incidents have been recorded on the water bodies of the Mykolaiv region, resulting in the drowning of 8 people. Among the dead — 1 child.
This was reported June 16, 2026 by the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Mykolaiv region.
At the same time, rescuers managed to save 8 people, including 2 children.
For comparison, in the same period of 2025 there were 6 water incidents in the region. Then 7 people died, including 3 children. It was possible to rescue 1 child.
The State Emergency Service emphasizes: behind each number is a human life, someone’s grief and an irreparable loss for a family.
The 24-hour period of June 14 was especially tragic. In the territory of the Mishkovo-Pohorylivska community, in the waters of the Inhul River, two fatal water incidents occurred.
During the day, State Emergency Service divers retrieved from the river the body of a man who had been found in the water that same day.
In the evening, the Rescue Service received a report about the disappearance of another citizen. Search operations continued throughout the evening and were resumed in the morning.
Later, divers found the body of the deceased and transported it to the shore.
Law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of both tragic incidents.
Mykolaiv rescuers once again urge citizens to follow safety rules while spending time near water bodies and on the water.
It is especially dangerous to swim in unregulated places, to enter the water while intoxicated, to leave children unattended, to swim far from the shore, or to overestimate one’s own strength.
