On the night of 7 June 2026, an enemy drone struck the site of the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, abbreviated CSNFS. As a result of the strike, the container receiving building was partially damaged. This was reported by NNEGC “Energoatom”.

According to the company, the strike occurred at 02:10. The partially destroyed container receiving building was not being used to store spent nuclear fuel at the time of the attack. After the impact, a fire broke out over an area of 40 sq. m. The fire was promptly contained and fully extinguished. There were no injuries among the staff.

Energoatom emphasized that the radiation situation at the CSNFS site remains within normal limits. The company continues continuous monitoring of the situation and is coordinating with all responsible state services.

This strike was another Russian attack on Ukraine’s nuclear infrastructure project. Even if spent nuclear fuel was not stored in the damaged building, the very fact of a hit on the site of such a facility is a direct threat to nuclear and radiation safety.

The strike on the CSNFS once again demonstrates that Russia is acting as a state-terrorist and a nuclear terrorist, disregarding international law, the safety of civilians, and risks to millions of people. For Ukraine, it is further proof that Russian aggression is aimed not only at cities and military targets, but also at critical infrastructure, whose accidents can have consequences far beyond the strike site.
