The animals of the Mykolaiv Zoo were not harmed during the Russian attack on the Epicenter shopping center in Mykolaiv on the evening of 4 September. At the time of the strikes they were all inside closed enclosures.

The zoo director Volodymyr Topchiy said that after the attack the situation at the facility remains normal. According to him, no additional assistance is needed for the zoo.

“We are fine. For the animals it is not stressful, they do not understand what it is. Our animals were all kept inside the buildings. Well, everything is fine,” explained Volodymyr Topchiy.

The director also noted that after the strikes all services responded appropriately.

“There will be no details. Everything is normal. Everything is fine, thank God. Everyone did their jobs, all services operated as they should,” said Volodymyr Topchiy.

Russian forces attacked the shopping center several times with drones on the evening of 4 September and during the night of 5 September. The impacts damaged the retail halls and caused fires.

Two people were reported injured as a result of the attack: a 72-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl.
