Car with five children plunged off a bridge into the water: high-profile crash in Mykolaiv region

31 May 2026, at around 12:50, in the village of Voronivka, Voznesensk district, a road traffic accident involving a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport occurred. This was reported by the Mykolaiv Oblast police. According to preliminary information from law enforcement, a 19-year-old young man was behind the wheel. He lost control, after which the vehicle went off the bridge and fell into the water.

As a result of the accident, the passengers who were in the car were taken to a medical facility for examination: five children aged nine, 11, 12 and 15, a 40-year-old man, and the probable driver. All of them sustained injuries of varying severity.

Police are currently establishing all the circumstances and causes of the crash. Police investigators preliminarily classified the incident under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by persons driving vehicles. The article’s sanction provides for punishment of up to three years’ restriction of liberty. The police note that additional qualification of the incident is possible during further checks.
