How an officer "treated himself" at a casino: a new episode in the case of evading duty
On paper — a hospital, in reality — gambling: new details in the case of a serviceman
As reported on April 9, 2026 by the State Bureau of Investigation, investigators have completed the pre-trial investigation of another episode involving an officer (deputy commander of a military unit) from the Dnipropetrovsk region, who had previously been implicated in criminal proceedings.
Previously, the same officer was exposed for assisting a deputy of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council in a fictitious performance of military service, and in September 2025 he and accomplices were uncovered for organizing the illegal departure of servicemen to European countries (the main case materials regarding the deputy were referred to court in February 2026).
This time the matter concerns the following: the suspect forged a medical certificate of alleged inpatient treatment for the period from April to September 2025. On the basis of this document the serviceman effectively did not perform his service duties. In fact, as law enforcement established, during this time the officer was dealing with personal matters and organizing unlawful activities. In addition, he visited gambling establishments and spent substantial sums of money. Despite his absence from service, the suspect continued to receive pay as a serviceman.
The officer is now additionally charged with Part 4 of Art. 409 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (evasion of military service under martial law) and Part 2 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud).
The sanctions of the articles provide for punishment of up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
The suspect is in custody.
