In Mykolaiv Oblast, 18- and 19-year-olds beat an acquaintance to death with a brick

In the Mykolaiv region, law enforcement officers detained two young men suspected of killing an acquaintance; the incident occurred on Thursday, March 26, at about 15:30 in the village of Yuriyivka.

The regional prosecutor’s office and the police reported the incident; they are coordinating investigative actions in the criminal proceedings.

According to preliminary findings of the investigation, while drinking together, a dispute arose between the 18– and 19-year-old youths and their 39-year-old acquaintance, which escalated into a fight.

During the beating, the suspects struck the victim numerous times with their hands and feet, and also hit him with a brick on the head and torso. From his injuries, the 39-year-old man died at the scene.

A local resident found the lifeless body and reported it to the police; the medics who arrived at the scene pronounced him dead.

Both suspects were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. They have been charged under paragraph 12 of part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional murder committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.

A decision is being made on selecting pre-trial detention as a preventive measure for the suspects. The sanction of the charged article provides for punishment from 10 to 15 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
