An old conflict repeats itself? Residents of Korabelnyi are once again complaining about a generator by the window
Everyone needs heat, but not at the cost of safety right outside their windows: a new dispute over a generator
A resident of Mykolaiv’s Korabelnyi District, Inna, has spoken out against installing a generator near the second entrance of the building at 11a Aivazovskoho Street. According to her, the municipal enterprise Mykolaivoblteploenergo began preparatory work on October 22, 2026, and plans to place the generator directly beneath her apartment windows. That same day, the woman posted an appeal to the Contact Center of Mykolaiv City Council. She is asking for the structure to be removed and points to potential health and safety risks for residents.
According to Inna, the generator is being prepared for installation to keep the system running during prolonged power outages. However, she believes that placing the equipment so close to a residential building could cause problems for the people living nearby.
In her appeal, she identifies three main risks:
- Noise and vibration. In her view, the generator’s continuous operation near apartments could worsen living conditions and disrupt rest.
- Risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. The applicant fears that exhaust fumes could enter apartment windows and ventilation openings.
- Fire hazard. She is also concerned that the equipment may be improperly positioned and fuel stored near the residential building.
The resident emphasizes that she understands the importance of keeping the heating system operating reliably during martial law and prolonged power outages. However, she believes this does not remove the need to comply with sanitary and fire-safety requirements and ensure that the equipment is placed safely.
In her appeal to the city contact center, Inna stated her request as follows:
“In view of the above, I OBJECT AND REQUEST that this structure be dismantled. I expect a prompt response and resolution of the issue.”
A similar situation has already occurred in Korabelnyi District. In February 2026, Korabelov.info reported on a complaint from a resident of a building at 1b Oleh Olzhych Street, where a Mykolaivoblteploenergo generator had been installed beside an apartment’s windows and right next to its balcony.
The woman complained about the noise and feeling unwell, including headaches after the generator had been running. In response, the municipal enterprise explained that amid energy restrictions, the equipment was operating under increased load, and that certain deviations from recommended fire-safety standards were being offset by enhanced supervision. The enterprise also said it planned to return to the designed power supply scheme for individual heating substations once electricity supply was restored.
