Britain to accelerate air defence deliveries to Ukraine against jet-powered Shaheds
An agreement was reached by Zelenskyy and Burnham at a meeting in London
Ukraine will receive British air defense systems sooner than originally planned. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and United Kingdom Prime Minister Andy Burnham agreed to speed up deliveries at a meeting in London yesterday.
The talks took place amid massive Russian attacks on Ukraine. Zelenskyy said that on the night of October 14, Russia used ballistic missiles and more than a hundred attack drones. The attacks targeted:
- energy facilities;
- logistics infrastructure;
- railway infrastructure.
The president explained the need for additional weapons by the need to counter Russian jet-powered drones such as the “Shahed”. Their high speed makes these drones more difficult to intercept.
In addition to expediting air defense deliveries, the leaders discussed further defense and financial support for Ukraine and strengthening cooperation between the countries. Zelenskyy thanked the British government for its assistance and emphasized the need to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses.
Burnham said he had already instructed members of the British government to explore all possible ways of providing Ukraine with additional support.
