They Were Drinking in a Public Garden: Man Stabbed an Acquaintance in Mykolaiv Region

In Pivdennoukrainsk, an argument between two acquaintances in a park ended in a stabbing: according to police, a 36-year-old man stabbed his 46-year-old opponent in the stomach. Medical staff notified law enforcement that the victim had been hospitalized on the evening of October 8. The man is currently in hospital recovering from surgery.

A call to the 102 emergency line came in at around 19:45. The victim was taken to hospital from an apartment in a high-rise building. His mother called an ambulance.

An investigative team from the Department of Police No. 3 of the Voznesensk District Police Department, together with forensic laboratory specialists, established that the man had been injured not in the apartment but in a local park on one of the city’s streets. He had been drinking there with his 36-year-old acquaintance. A verbal argument broke out between the men, during which, according to police, the acquaintance stabbed the victim and then threw away the weapon.

Officers from the local police department and the regional police headquarters identified the suspect’s whereabouts and found the knife. They were assisted by analysts from the Criminal Analysis Department. Forensic specialists seized the evidence and sent it for expert examination.

Investigators arrested the man under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. With the prosecutor’s approval, he was notified that he was suspected of committing an intentional grievous bodily injury offence under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The suspect faces up to 8 years in prison.

The court will decide on a preventive measure for the man in the near future. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
