Two killed, including a child: rocket and drone attack on Kyiv and the region

Russian missile-and-drone strike on Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast caused deaths, destruction of homes and fires. The attack lasted from the evening of 29 September into the night of 30 September. An update as of 07:24 reports two fatalities. Among the victims was a child found under the rubble of a house in Vyshhorod.

The first information about the consequences of the attack was released by the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration Timur Tkachenko and Kyiv’s mayor Vitali Klitschko. Later the information about fires and destruction was supplemented by the State Emergency Service (SES).

In Vyshhorod rescuers pulled three people from under the rubble of a destroyed private house. The rescued child suffered an acute stress reaction. A man sustained shrapnel wounds to the head, and a woman suffered a leg injury. All are receiving necessary medical care. After the body of another child was found, rescuers continued work to extricate it.

In the region the attack affected housing, vehicles, warehouses and infrastructure:

In the Vyshhorod district some private houses were damaged, others destroyed. A residential house and garages burned, and the building’s glazing was also damaged.
In the Bucha district three private houses, 11 vehicles and two warehouse facilities were damaged. A fire broke out.
Consequences of strikes on infrastructure facilities were recorded in the Bucha, Vyshhorod and Obukhiv districts.

In his first report on the situation in the capital Vitali Klitschko named the following fire sites:

In the Sviatoshynskyi district fire engulfed an area of private residential development.
In the Obolonskyi district a shop building caught fire.
In the Holosiivskyi district a warehouse facility burned.

At that time two people were reported injured in Kyiv. The wounded woman was taken to hospital.

Later the State Emergency Service (SES) published clarifications about fires and destruction in four districts of the capital:

In the Sviatoshynskyi district about 10 private houses were damaged.
In the Podilskyi district a hit on a non-residential building caused the roof and construction materials on the sixth floor to catch fire. Another warehouse facility was damaged and caught fire. These fires were promptly extinguished by rescuers. At another address a two-storey private house burned.
In the Holosiivskyi district the fire engulfed a bathhouse, a utility shed and a concrete mixer. The fire was extinguished.
In the Solomianskyi district a grass surface on open ground caught fire.

In its initial report the State Emergency Service (SES) mentioned one fatality and four injured as a result of the Russian shelling. Later the number of fatalities was clarified — the updated figure is given at the start of this article.

Authorities urge residents to respond to air-raid alerts and stay in shelters.
