The body of a missing 11-year-old boy was found in the Southern Bug in Mykolaiv region — police report
A child was found by a drone near the village of Tsvitkove
In the morning of September 29, near the village of Tsvitkove in the Prybuzka community, the body of an 11-year-old boy who had gone missing from home the day before was found during a search operation in the Southern Bug river.
The boy’s mother — a local resident — notified the police about his disappearance. The report was received by Police Department No. 2 of the Voznesensk District Directorate on September 28. The woman said her son left home and did not return.
Searches continued around the clock without breaks. The operation involved:
- personnel from the criminal investigation department and the preventive activities department of the regional police;
- employees of the Voznesensk District Police and neighboring territorial units;
- operatives and juvenile prevention inspectors;
- community police officers;
- canine handlers with service dogs;
- servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine;
- local residents.
Search teams examined Tsvitkove and the village outskirts, checked roads, shelterbelts, fields, wastelands, abandoned buildings and bodies of water. A drone was used for hard-to-reach areas, while ground teams worked with thermal imagers. A canine handler with a service dog checked likely routes the child may have taken.
Overall, police searched more than 10 kilometers of territory within a radius of the family’s home. In the morning, while surveying the Southern Bug water area from the air, the child was spotted with the help of a drone.
Rescuers and police on watercraft recovered the body from the river. It was sent for a forensic medical examination, which is to determine the final cause of death.
Investigators opened a criminal case under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — this qualification is the procedure for such cases. The Mykolaiv Region Police expressed condolences to the family of the deceased boy.
