In Mykolaiv region, a man accused of selling three humanitarian vehicles intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine will stand trial

A 25-year-old resident of Vinnytsia region, according to the investigation, set up the sale of cars brought into Ukraine under a simplified procedure as humanitarian aid for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In July the man delivered 3 cars to the Mykolaiv district, handed them over to the buyer together with the keys and received $17,900.

As established during the pre-trial investigation, the suspect knew about the humanitarian origin of the vehicles, but decided to profit from their sale. He sought buyers through advertisements on online platforms.

He put the following vehicles up for sale:

• Nissan X-Trail;
• Nissan Navara;
• Honda CR-V.

While communicating with a potential buyer, the suspect agreed to sell all 3 vehicles for the agreed sum. To conceal the origin of the cars and transport them, he involved acquaintances, whom he assured that he legally owned the vehicles.

Immediately after handing over the vehicles, the keys and receiving the money, the man was detained in accordance with the procedure of Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The illegal activity was exposed this summer by investigators of Police Unit No. 4 of the Mykolaiv District Police Department with operational support from officers of the regional SBU directorate and the border guard service. Procedural supervision was provided by the Mykolaiv District Prosecutor’s Office.

Based on the collected evidence, the suspect was notified of suspicion of selling humanitarian aid goods for profit, committed in a significant amount during martial law. The actions were qualified under Part 3 of Article 201-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Investigators have now completed the pre-trial investigation and sent the indictment to the prosecutor’s office, which forwarded it to the court for substantive consideration. The man faces up to 7 years imprisonment, a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to 3 years, and confiscation of property.

Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until their guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
